Project Manager, Oxford Brookes University
I started cycling when I was 3, pedalling a tricycle round the garden, but I learnt to ride my first proper bicycle one afternoon when I was 5.
I have always ridden a bike, from racing my brother up and down my road in the early years, to cycle touring in my 20s, to competitive racing now. My best cycling memory is riding up the Col d’Iseran near the French-Italian border on a misty August morning in the Alps, with 3 feet of snow on either side of the road. Cycling makes you appreciate the beauty of the natural environment.
I currently use a bike for commuting, training and racing. I don’t think there should be any secrets in cycling – ask Lance Armstrong! I’m also an occasional golfer and was a competitive tennis player (former senior County Doubles Champion back in the day).
